Dell Inspiron 3646: What We Found Inside!
Our PC Parts...
- Power Supply: A power supply is an electronic circuit which converts the voltage of AC (alternating high voltage current) into DC (direct current) with the correct format and voltage. The power supply also ensures that the PC functions properly by regulating the DC output voltage to the fine tolerances required for modern computing components. The power supply supplies all power to the PC components.
- CD, DVD, or Floppy Drives: CD stands for compact disk. A laser beam scans the CD in order to produce the recorded sound on it.
- Hard Drive: The hard drive is the component that stores all the data on the computer. It can store documents, pictures, music, videos, programs, application preferences. The amount of storage on a hard drive is measured in MG, BG, and TB.
- Fans: Fans within a PC are used or active cooling. They are used to draw cooler air into the case from the outside, expel warm air from inside and move air across a heat sink to cool a particular component. Without a fan, a PC can overheat to a high temperature ultimately causing the system to slow down and in worse cases, possibly destruct.
- CPU and Heat Sink: The heat sink is places above the computer chip (the CPU). It is responsible for letting the hot air out of the computer. While it does not do this on its own, it is combined with the fan and either blows the hot air out or uses a liquid cooling solution.
- RAM: RAM is the system's short term memory which is also used to handle all active tasks and apps. The RAM stores the information your computer is actively using so it can be accessed quickly in the future. With that, the more programs you are running, would result into more memory needed. More specifically, our PC, Dell Inspiron 3646 has 4 GB which is quite large in comparison to other older PC devices.
- Motherboard: A motherboard is the circuit board that connects all of the hardware to the processor, distributes electricity from your power supply, and defines the types of storage devices, memory modules, and graphics cards also known as expansion cards that can connect to your PC.
